Why Are We Doing This? Part 1

You might be wondering what this decentralization stuff is all about or why we care so much about it.  Good question.  Here’s our answer – part 1.

Hierarchy was designed for a different era.  Rooted in military command and control, it emerged during the industrial revolution to coordinate large, integrated, relatively stable systems – factories, railroads, financial systems. Employees were largely uneducated and information moved slowly through telephone calls and paper. Hierarchy helped us standardize and integrate work.

Enter the information era.  Information is now ubiquitous and instantaneous. Employees are highly educated. Rapid innovation is not optional, it’s mandatory.  Everything changed.  And a few, pioneering organizations led the way into a new organizational operating model –self-management – designed for this new environment.  But most organizations stayed stuck, and frustrated, in the models of the past.

And today?  Enter AI.  We don’t know what this next era will introduce – but it’s coming. Fast. And most organizations are about to be two paradigms behind.

So, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. That’s why we’re doing this.
